Club Championship 2004/5
We are launching a new format club championship as of 18/10/04.
It is based upon the Glicko rating system used by FICS (Free Internet Chess
Server). This flexible system removes the need for formal pairings.
There will be a 'QuickPlay' and 'Standard' Club Championship.
RULES
-
Only paid-up members are eligible to play in the Club Championship.
-
You must have played a total of at least 8 'Standard' games by the end
of University year to qualify for the Standard Club
Championship.
-
You must have played a total of at least 24 'QuickPlay' games by the end of the
University year to qualify for the QuickPlay Club Championship.
-
Players may play whoever they like as long as both players accept that
they are playing a 'Rated' game. A player may refuse to play an rated game
against an opponent if they so wish.
-
The time controls for Rated games can either be QuickPlay < 30 minutes each,
or 'Standard' >30 minutes each. The precise time control is left to the
agreement of the players.
-
Colours are by mutual agreement (i.e. if the opponent was White last time
then Black next.) or randomly.
-
The results of all 'Rated' games must be recorded in the folder provided.
-
Each player has a 'QuickPlay' rating and a 'Standard' rating. These both start
with a rating of 1500 and RD of 350.
-
New ratings are calculated weekly by PC based on the recorded results
according to the Glicko rating system
used by FICs.
-
The winner of the QuickPlay Club Championship is the player with the highest
QuickPlay rating at the end of the University year.
-
The winner of the Standard Club Championship is the player with the highest
Standard rating at the end of the University year.
Note: RD stands for 'Ratings Difference' and is a statistical measure of how
accurate you rating is, as you play more games this value decreases, if you
don't play for a while it goes up.
Once the championship is underway, a page will be made available for players to
monitor their rating and rankings.
